Banquet Sized Doulton Burslem 'Watteau' Flow Blue Platter (49cm)
At nearly half a meter wide, this is an exceptionally rare example of Doulton Burslem. Produced circa 1901, this piece features the iconic 'Watteau' pattern, inspired by the French Rococo artist Jean-Antoine Watteau. The design depicts intricate floral scrolling in the desirable 'Flow Blue' style—where the cobalt glaze was deliberately allowed to bleed into the ironstone during firing, creating a halo-like softness that collectors prize.
It is a true statement piece, large enough to hold a holiday roast or to serve as a dramatic backdrop on a dresser or wall.
Condition Report:
Good antique condition. There is crazing and a warm, age-related patina to the central well, which attests to its 120+ year history. There is one chip confined to the underside of the rim, which is not visible when the platter is displayed.
