Beswick Rectangular Trough Planter
A Beswick rectangular trough planter in matte ivory glaze, shape number 732. The form is architectural and Art Deco in character: fluted vertical ribs run along the sides, the corners bow slightly outward, and a central recessed panel on each long side carries a stylised leaf and stem motif in low relief. The whole thing sits on a stepped plinth base with moulded banding.
The glaze is a warm off-white, slightly cooler toned in the recesses where it has pooled. Beswick was one of the great Staffordshire potteries, operating from Longton from the 1890s and producing an enormous range of decorative and functional ceramics through the mid-twentieth century.
This example is in very good condition and presents beautifully. Works equally well as a planter, a desktop organiser, or simply as an object on a shelf.
Condition: Very good. No chips, cracks, or repairs visible from photos. Matte glaze surface clean and intact. Interior shows some staining consistent with use.
Dimensions: 310mm l x 100mm h x 65mm w
