Meissen Neubrandenstein Plate with Pink Rose
A fine Meissen porcelain plate in the Neubrandenstein form, produced during the Knaufzeit period (1860-1924) as part of the factory's sustained Neo-Rococo revival.
The moulded border alternates between panels of raised basket-weave and fluid wave-shaped cartouches, a form first introduced in the mid-18th century and reissued throughout the second half of the 19th century to meet aristocratic and royal demand for the rococo aesthetic.
The well is painted with a single stem of pink dog rose (Rosa canina) in full bloom, the open five-petalled flower rendered in soft washes of rose and blush with a yellow centre, accompanied by a budding spray and green foliage. Small scattered floral sprigs are placed freely around the interior and on the border panels in the Deutsche Blumen tradition, each one naturalistically painted in the Meissen manner.
The plate would have been made to the same standards and likely from the same moulds as pieces produced a century earlier.
Condition: Excellent. Comes with a handmade wall hanger.
