Victorian Ebonised Hall Stand with Mirror and Umbrella Stand
A commanding Victorian hall stand in ebonised wood, likely English and dating to around 1910. The piece follows the classic high Victorian formula for entrance hall furniture: a tall central column rising to a carved and crested top, with three tiers of projecting arms fitted with turned coat hooks.
A slim rectangular mirror is set into the centre of the column, flanked by the upper hook arms, and the whole surface is richly carved with foliate and figural decoration in relief. Below the column, four barley twist legs support a square drip tray with a moulded border, designed to collect wet umbrellas. A shallow removable zinc liner sits inside the tray.
Condition: Generally good for age. The ebonised finish shows expected wear and minor scuffing consistent with use over more than a century. Some light surface scratching visible on the column and arms. The mirror has some foxing and age-related haziness. Carved detail is crisp throughout with no losses apparent. Barley twist legs appear sound with no obvious breaks or repairs. The zinc umbrella liner is present and intact with some patination.
