A charming vintage Staffordshire Spaniel, a timeless icon of British pottery history.
Standing 23cm tall, this 20th-century 'Made in England' figurine pays homage to the original hearth dogs that became hugely popular in the Victorian era. Cast from slip and hand-decorated, it features the classic white glazed earthenware body adorned with a gilt collar, padlock, and chain, along with hand-painted gold lustre markings.
Originally sold in pairs to guard the fireplace, this solo spaniel now makes a perfect character piece for a bookshelf vignette or a bedside table. A wonderful way to add a touch of English heritage and whimsy to your space.
Condition: Good vintage condition. The glaze is bright and the hand-painted features are distinct. As a 20th-century vintage piece, it features the characteristic large slip-casting hole on the base. There is minor rubbing to the gold lustre consistent with age and handling.
