It reproduces the vibrant 1828 illustration by John Whitchurch Bennett from his seminal work, A Selection from the Most Remarkable and Interesting Fishes found on the Coast of Ceylon.
The Frame: The print has been professionally custom framed in a ribbed gilded timber frame, which complements the warm tones of the illustration.
Historical Context: J.W. Bennett (1790-1853) was a British officer and naturalist stationed in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). His 1828 publication was a groundbreaking study of local marine life, illustrated with drawings by Bennett and local artists he commissioned.
