Medium Victorian Blue & White 'Asiatic Pheasants' Platter
A large Victorian oval platter in the Asiatic Pheasants pattern, one of the most enduring and beloved designs in English transferware. Asiatic Pheasants was first produced in the 1840s and remained in continuous production well into the 20th century, made by dozens of Staffordshire potteries.
Condition: Crazing throughout the glaze, extensive but even and consistent with age. Brown staining visible on the front face. Glazing defects present - small blemishes in the glaze surface from firing rather than later damage, typical of earthenware of this period. Glaze wear to the rim consistent with use. Reverse shows three kiln spur marks where the piece was propped during firing - a standard feature of the period and not a flaw.
Dimensions: 37.5cm x 31cm
