Pair of Sancai Glaze Ceramic Camels
A pair of ceramic camels decorated in the sancai three-colour glaze tradition. Each is finished in streaked amber, green and cream, with a moulded saddle and blanket over the humps and the head raised as if braying. The underside bears an impressed Chinese character mark. The sancai palette takes its name from the amber, green and cream glazes of Tang dynasty tomb figures, a style revived and reproduced for decorative ware ever since.
Condition: Very good. One small chip to an eyebrow, see photos. Light crazing to the glaze consistent with the type.
